Final ride - Trento, Lake Molveno, Lake Garda

[ posted by iain Monday, May 30, 2005 ] Well, I am back in the UK after two excellent weeks in Italy. We got one last ride in on Wednesday last week [ viamichelin map of route ]. From Rovereto we took the piste ciclabili up to Trento and then onto Mezzocorono (around 50km). From there we headed towards the Val di Non but not far outside Mezzocorona we took a left up the climb to Fai della Paganella. It's a 750 m climb to the village but quite tough in parts. We carried along the undulating road through the forest to Andalo and futher on to Molveno. The lake here is really spectacular and has some great mountain views. We stopped for a rather lazily served snack in a cafe and then continued along the east edge of the lake. The descent down towards Lake Garda is particularly nasty if you head down via Dro (the way we went), the tunnels are long and the road busy so lights are a must. A more scenic and safer route is probably to go via Ballino further west. Once near the shores of Lake Garda we returned via Arco climbing up to Mori and back onto the cycleway to Rovereto to complete around 90 miles.
