Upgrading/Downgrading

[ posted by Iain Tuesday, May 03, 2005 ] A good weekend's riding over the Bank Holiday putting in more miles in preparation for the holiday, only two weeks to go now. Saturday's ride was over to Box Hill to get my rear wheel checked over at the shop. It's going to need replacing before I head out to Italy. I'm probably going to downgrade to a pair of Campagnolo Protons, Nucleons are more expensive than my Neutrons were a few years ago and I can't justify twice the price for a few grams saved (to have the rear rim replaced is going to cost very nearly the price of a new pair of Protons). I have been really impressed with Campagnolo wheels. I have ridden on them for years and they have never needed truing and the hubs are superb (this is something I may miss if I downgrade). Anyway, it's not going to be the wheels holding me back whatever I choose. Lampre have announced their squad for the Giro. The latest vote is showing that Simoni is a favourite among herneweb visitors but given his recent results Cunego seems to coming good at just the right time.
