Dieci Colli Bolognesi
I did my first granfondo of the year on Monday - the Dieci Colli Bolognesi (10 hills of Bologna). From the route map you can see it's a tough course of continual up and down, no big climbs but lots of short and steep ones, a real leg breaker. As with all granfondo in Italy it was organised superbly with road closures, plenty of refreshment along the way and of course a monster plate of pasta awaiting at the finish.
The winner was none other than Raimondas Rumsas at an average speed of 38km/h, pretty good going but I kind of question the equity of an disgraced ex-pro competing in amateur events to earn his living. Then again I suppose it's his job and has to make a crust somehow. Would be interesting to hear other people's points of view on this matter.
Comments:
I think the UCI stepped in to stop Hamilton racing in America after his ban.
Either way, I think it detracts from the spirit of GF's to have someone like him winning.
