If climate change hadn't melted the UK's four seasons into one long, grey year, I would like to be returning from a day of cross-country skiing.

With no cycling on TV until the Spring classics I have been really enjoying the cross country skiing and biathlon coverage. It looks to me to be the closest sport you can get to cycling in terms of the physiological demands.

I've heard that a number of cyclists use cross-country skiing as off-season training; I wonder if skiers use cycling for the same purpose?

As it is, we had to put up with another grey and breezy day for today's ride. thumbs down

Tyler Hamilton came from ski-ing.

Oherwise I think there might be more overlap from speed-skating. Eric Heiden and Connie Carpenter to name just two.

Thanks Mark, I looked further into Tyler's ski career and it turns out it was cut short while trying to attempt this crazy stunt (found via Chris Gerhard's weblog).
I wonder if he would have got as far in skiing as he did in cycling. He's a bit small I would have thought.
