Fake tan
Nothing to do with cycling but the weather was pretty dull again today and we went to the Tate Modern to catch a bit of sunlight. This is Olafur Eliasson's Weather Project installation in the main turbine hall and it is really spectacular.Happy New Year
I hope the new year doesn't carry on how it started. The weather was terrible today, dull grey and rainy, so it was a short 2 hour ride on the recently rebuilt winter bike. It reminded me how poor my CODA wheels are compared with a good pair of Mavics. I'm not flying up hills at the moment anyway but climbing on these wheels is like riding up a sand dune.
I started reading William Fotheringham's biography of Tom Simpson today [ "Put me back on my bike" ]. It's pretty good so far and if the weather keeps up like this I shall have it finished in no time.Top five
Thanks to John B for this link on Tyler Hamilton's tour ride [ Hamilton the true hero after Tour of pain - FT.com ]. I cant wait to see what a fully fit Hamilton can do next year.
It was great to see Bradley Wiggins [ Best male track rider ] and Nicole Cooke [ Best female road rider ] getting their due recognition in the cyclingnews readers polls.
So just to keep with the trend of end of year statistics and polls here's the herneweb Top Five riders of 2003.- Jan Ullrich - Well I couldn't put him at number two again!! Hopefully he can go one better in the Tour next year.
- Tyler Hamilton - not just for his Tour but also his Classics performance.
- Yaroslav Popovyc - great in the Giro and should be one to watch again next year
- Lance Armstrong - I know its a predictable choice but the way he pulled himself back in the Tour made for some edge-of-seat viewing over the summer and the best tour in years
- Roberto Heras - good on him for leaving US Postal, I hope he goes on to make Armstrong work for his sixth Tour.
It's a shame to see the end of the Jan Ullrich fansite, I really enjoyed reading it while it was still publishing.
