Smells like 2003

You wouldn't know a year had passed since Simoni blasted up the Pampeago and Petacchi was throwing punches at 40 mph. Both have returned this year with what seems a similar dominance. OK, it's early days, but with Cipollini still not up to the challenge with the bad luck of his crash, it would be a surprise to see Petacchi not getting a similar tally to last year.
Hopefully the mountains will stir up some less predictable results. Cioni seems to be getting better and better each year and hopefully Popovych can stir things up a bit.
Jan Ulrich's team is having more than their share of bad luck at the moment. Guerini's still having problems with pedestrians and Savoldelli has had another serious crash. He seems not too had a chance to prove himself since he moved to T-mobile. Hopefully he'll get his chanc e at the Tour if he recovers in time.
