Campagnolo:78.1% Shimano:21.9%
Well, not surprisingly (to me at least) Shimano was soundly beaten by Campagnolo in the latest vote. I have the fortune (or misfortune if you need a spare part) to ride both a Campagnolo and a Shimano equipped bike. They both have their good and bad sides, Shimano is smoother and a bit more tolerant of less than perfect adjustment, but once the Campag kit is setup up correctly I find it much more snappy and precise.
This week an off-season survey for everyone, are you putting in the miles or putting on the pounds?
Feeling guilty?
Speaking of guilt, I woke up yesterday with the alarm radio on Radio 4 and there was someone talking about the emotion of Guilt (it may have been Thought for Day). I was half asleep, so don't quote me on this, but the gist of it was about on the origins of guilt and how it is rooted in religion and that in todays less religious society we tend to pass guilt off as low self esteem and excuse it under the pretence that one shouldn't have to feel guilty.
Does that mean that if I feel guilty for missing a ride that cycling is religious? Too right it is. Early every Sunday large crowds of grown men get dressed into their best kit and head out to follow a chosen leader to the designated meeting place where they discuss the technology and philosophy of the discipline before returing home with a considerably improved sense of well being.
So if you didn't ride over Christmas, shame on you, feel the guilt and do an extra ten miles every ride until it eases ;-)
Enjoy the New Year bank holiday!
Back up and running
The site's back up after a few days of technical work. I haven't posted for a while due to christmas business and some technical problems.
I didn't get many miles in over the Christmas weekend but managed to stave off the guilt by going out running a few times. I only ever run in the winter as a way off getting in some excercise during the short days that tend to limit excercise time. The problem is every year I have to slowly retrain my body to running, something I suspect will soon get more difficult each year. I have to start with a period of slow sessions to get my knees and hips used to the impact and I usually endure a few days of very sore muscles at the beginning. It is a welcome alternative to the indoor trainer though.
