Mixed bag ...
Only one day on the bike this weekend on account of feeling knackered yesterday. The rest did me a world of good and today's ride was a good paced, hilly 50+ miler.
The recently published vote about Richard Virenque's place as one of the great Tour climbers was surprising on two levels. One, the speed of response from voters, and two, the overwhelming vote in his favour. I had expected a more ambiguous vote and wonder if it would have gone that way five years ago.
Richy has started an interesting thread on the message board about the Abu Dhabi Cycling Race of Champions . With such huge amounts of money of offer and the short race distances it should make for some spectacular and very heated racing. Great for the riders too; half the distance, twice the money. It's strange that they have found the money at a time when cycling's going through such an image crisis. I reckon the sprint stage would be a lottery, especially at such short distances; the climbing stage less so if they set the course right. The individual time trial stage looks interesting. It's almost a long prologue, so I can see more than just the true time triallers thinking they have a chance. What do you reckon, are we going to see a cycling Grand Prix racing series around the world?
