Wiggins vs Millar
I was in two minds about going out today but once out on the road I ended up going further and climbing more hills than I had planned. It was a nice surprise in two ways because I had written off today to poor weather and I was feeling much better on the bike than I did off it this morning. Feeling a bit guilty because I had planned to be putting some miles in with IShaggy in the morning but we called it off at the last minute, sorry R. In the end it was a 50 miler with over 1000m of climbing on a new route which I think will make a cracking summer evening ride.
The European season is well under way now and it was great to see Jeremy Hunt take a victory on the Continent. It was interesting to see him win in a jersey without the name of the team sponsor and ironic that in banning the Unibet name the French authorities have raised the profile of the win and subsequently the team's media exposure.
The classics are the best bet for good British results this year and hopefully Roger Hammond can produce the goods riding for T-Mobile. In the major Tours the best we can hope for is stage wins and none is more coveted than the Tour de France prologue around the streets of London. Wiggins and Millar have been saying for some time now that this is the one to win for them this year. Let's face it, it is not going to come down to a straight head-to-head between these two on the day; but that's not going to stop me putting them up for the new vote.
